Video Summary
The speaker presented a single-center prospective study of heart failure with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF), a common condition with poor prognosis and limited treatments. Using cardiac MRI in 140 HFpEF patients and 48 controls, the team found significantly lower left atrial ejection fraction (LAEF) in HFpEF, even in sinus rhythm. LAEF discriminated HFpEF from controls and predicted death or rehospitalization. It remained an independent prognostic marker in multivariable models, though not when indexed extracellular volume was added. The study suggests LAEF may help identify high-risk HFpEF patients and could be a future therapeutic target.
