Video Summary
Cardiovascular shunts are abnormal connections between systemic and pulmonary circulation, causing left-to-right or right-to-left blood flow. The talk reviews common congenital and acquired shunts, including ASD, VSD, PDA, PAPVD, Tetralogy of Fallot, and Eisenmenger syndrome. Cardiac MRI (CMR) is highlighted as a key tool to define anatomy, quantify shunt size with Qp:Qs, assess ventricular volumes and function, and guide management. It can measure flow in major vessels and detect causes of unexplained right or left heart enlargement. CMR is also useful in pulmonary hypertension prognosis and in complex single-ventricle or collateral circulation cases.
