The talk gives a practical overview of myocarditis, an inflammatory disease with many causes and highly variable presentations, including chest pain mimicking infarction, heart failure, or arrhythmias. It stresses that there is no true in vivo gold standard diagnosis, since biopsy can miss focal disease. Cardiac MRI, especially LGE, is central for diagnosis and particularly prognosis. The original and revised Lake Louise criteria are reviewed, with newer T1/T2 mapping aiming to improve sensitivity. However, LGE remains the strongest predictor of outcomes: absence of LGE is associated with very low rates of death and adverse events.
